The Why ("the App," "we," "us") is built to help Christians develop and sharpen their ability to engage with challenges to their faith. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address and, optionally, your name. Authentication is handled by Clerk (clerk.com).
Activity data. We store records of your debate sessions, training sessions, and Gospel practice sessions — including the topics, personas, scores, and debrief feedback generated for you. This data powers your history and statistics.
Preferences. Settings such as your default voice, difficulty level, and notification preferences are saved to your account.
Subscription status. If you subscribe to The Why Pro, subscription and purchase information is managed by RevenueCat (revenuecat.com). We receive only your subscription status — we do not store payment card details.
Device information. Standard technical data (device type, OS version, crash logs) may be collected to diagnose issues. We do not sell or share this data.
The App integrates the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:
Conversation content submitted during debate and Gospel sessions is sent to Anthropic's API to generate responses. Anthropic's data usage terms apply to that content.
Your account data and session history are retained for as long as your account is active. You may request export or deletion of your data at any time by emailing rogersmi87@gmail.com. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your data with third parties for advertising. Data is shared only with the service providers listed above as necessary to operate the App.
The Why is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Depending on your location you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, or to restrict or object to its processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at rogersmi87@gmail.com.
We use industry-standard practices to protect your data, including encrypted connections (TLS) and secure credential storage. No system is perfectly secure; we encourage you to use a strong password and to contact us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access.
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
